A beautiful Saturday, October 17, 2009

With blue skies and cool temps, this past weekend I attended and entered my work "Nos da"  (oil on canvas) into the Northwest Art League Fall show.  So many fabulous pieces of work there, oils, watercolors, mixed medias, drawings.  Absolutely loved the abstracts, landscapes, figurative works there.  Enjoyed it all so much.  Talking and sharing ideas with other artists, I can never get enough :).

My "Nos da" received Best of Show.  I want to thank the league for putting on a wonderful show, this was the first time I participated in one of your shows and was very impressed.

When Earth's Last Picture is Painted

When Earth's last picture is painted and the tubes are twisted and dried,
When the oldest colours have faded, and the youngest critic has died,
We shall rest, and, faith, we shall need it -- lie down for an aeon or two,
Till the Master of All Good Workmen shall put us to work anew!

And those that were good shall be happy: they shall sit in a golden chair;
They shall splash at a ten-league canvas with brushes of comets' hair;
They shall find real saints to draw from -- Magdalene, Peter, and Paul;
They shall work for an age at a sitting and never be tired at all!

And only the Master shall praise us, and only the Master shall blame;
And no one shall work for money, and no one shall work for fame,
But each for the joy of the working, and each, in his separate star,
Shall draw the Thing as he sees It for the God of Things as They Are!

~ Rudyard Kipling

I've always loved this poem, heard it again today.

Print of Elysian - Charcoal Drawing

I'm offering small prints of Elysian here.  The matting feature is cool.  I like it when you take a small print/painting and place it in a larger mat/frame - sets off the piece of work wonderfully.  Makes that little piece of art very important looking.  Loves it.  You can play with the matting there :).

**And greeting cards too!  Coolio!

She wore a Red Rose in her Hair..Charcoal Drawing on Paper

24x18 Strathmore done tonight, great session..loads of laughing, drawing, and painting.  I got a likeness, happy about that.  Absolutely beautiful woman.  "V" hopefully will be coming back.  She wore a red rose in her hair, and lovely red gown..and in case you're wondering, that's a fancy feathered mask she's holding in her left hand..this woman will wind up a painting no doubt about it dude ;)

Inspiration: Oils on Panel

Woke up this morning, thought I was going to begin another drawing..but was inspired and began painting this afternoon. At first the painting was going to be one of my 'sweet' ones..still feeling rather dramatic..:) - so..changed my mind..and began this..it's small 14x11..and just began..I think the girl has potential.

Update..Charcoal and Really big paper...

Did a bit more on her today. "Peace Out" as the work is entitled is an American slang/gesture - meaning 'peace, and bye, i'm outta here'...I had visions of Monty Pythons Old Lady Gangs when I was doing this. And that made me giggle. I've since been tapped on the shoulder and reminded that there is another meaning behind my 'gesture'..which sent me into a giggle fest..snorts and all. Of course I know about this 'gesture' as well, but wasn't thinking of it when creating this work. Ooops. :) . So I've had a difficult couple of months..and well, maybe it's a Freudian slip of sorts, and maybe not. Maybe it is what I intended it to be. I'll never tell.

I will be offering it for print. At a good price - soon. Of course it won't be printed on 6ft paper..it'll be smaller for you. This big girl is going in my living room. She's mine.

I'll give her a look over in a few days.......

Wow..

"peace out"
just a drawing-charcoal on some paper
Big girl.. :)

Actually..really big drawing..about life size, maybe a bit bigger. You can see the dimensions listed on the last post.

It's ok to giggle..this drawing is meant to do just that. I needed a giggle..I'm a funny girl anyway. I just happen to like to draw. I mean..it's very rare that I get to look at a nude/figure and giggle..seriously - a good giggle. Light hearted.

Did a bit on her today..maybe a bit more in a while. If I do more today..will post process to this same post. May change some things up..add some 'coolness' to it - but on this one - that's later - meaning: another day.

See ya later alligator.

Helloooo - I'm Back....

Family matters..and it does. We had a wee bit of a scare..all is well now. Prayers work, and faith - and brilliant medicine - and Love. 'Nuff said.

So..haven't done anything in a while-before all of this, had something in mind. Now my something in mind is for us. I'm going to hang this on my wall downstairs. There will be several. As I have several large walls to occupy..and I think the drawings will be cool. I have a name for this one, but I won't share it until I'm done. This is just the initial kind of lay in. She's 43inches by 6 foot. This is going to be fun..I know it. Loads of room to work in. Stay tuned. Same bat time, same bat channel.

A Lesson In Contrast

I like all the messy bits of charcoal, life's like that - ugly too at times - in a weird way the ugly messy bits make the so so pretty bits that much more beautiful.

Totally Redone Drawing Place

Have totally rethought my drawing place...look out for some fabulous stuff. Coming soon.

Thank you my Langley for your physical labor ;) xox.

Just thought this was beautiful

Oppression

Now dreams
Are not available
To the dreamers,
Nor songs
To the singers.

In some lands
Dark night
And cold steel
Prevail
But the dream
Will come back,
And the song
Break
Its jail.

Langston Hughes
