A Figure Drawing Life: Charcoal on Paper

Right - Here I am.  Back now.  Been a while since I've done anything really.  Lately been very busy with remodeling.  That's almost done..just one more thing to do..and we'll be finished.  So tonight I was lucky enough to get to go to my "painting" group..don't paint much there lately, too much to carry - love to draw there though - and tonight we had a lovely woman sit for us (You were right Liz).

This is charcoal on drawing paper.  - strathmore I believe-24x18 in.

I miss drawing so much when I don't get to do it..and appreciate it so much when I do.

:)

Hello, Just found your drawing on the Wet canvas gesture class. I'm teaching myself how to do all this but have no idea how to do these quick sketches for figures. Im 62 and have no idea about books dvds ect. Can you please help me with how to begin so I can get going and what do you use to draw when your doing these. I just fell in love with your work its wonderful!

Thanks Doug, thanks Liz..and Linda (thank you too) coming in the new year I'm going to begin teaching...so check back often. But for right now on the quick draws the first thing that comes to mind are shapes. Try focusing on shapes rather than all the intricate details. Focus on the large shapes and work your way down to the small shapes. Remember: Don't sweat the small stuff. :) Merry Christmas!
